The hard yards
Man, I know this summer has been pretty mild compared to years gone by but heck, this last couple weeks has been pretty brutal! I can honestly say that I don't think I did a good session last week. The humidity just about killed me and whilst I got some training done, it wasn't nearly as much as I would have liked. This week though, 10weeks (plus taper) out from UTA 100k, there is no more excuses. Heat, rain, hail, wind, whatever, training will be getting done. I have set my eyes on earning a silver buckle (sub 14hrs) on that weekend in May so there is a LOT of work to do! It is a massive goal on that course but I will be doing all I can to achieve that goal!
Outside of running, something that has really excited me as of late is a new event I have found. Every couple years I like doing something completely out of my comfort zone and I have found that thing for this year. At the end of August (after UTA, BVRT 100miler and KKRT 110miler in quick succession) and just before my 50marathons in 50days I am going to be doing a self supported 200mile gravel bike race on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. I have hopefully rounded up a couple of buddies to join the madness and it is going to be a super fun adventure! I have started doing two rides a week in addition to my already heavy training load and I will be as ready as I can be come August. Keen as a bean!
Outside of all this, everything else has been pretty sweet! Anyone who follows me on Instagram (Adventures and Activism) would have seen that I went to support my mate Ricky Taylor at Ultra355 on Monday. It is a multi day ultra endurance triathlon (a bit shorter than Ultraman) including a 5k swim and 100k ride day one, 200k ride day two and 50k run day three. I was there to watch the run and what a show he put on. One of the best, most well executed runs I have ever seen. He finished 3rd on run day (passing the Ultraman world champion in the last 300m) and went from 15th overall to 5th overall with that day three performance. It was an honour to be there, cheering him on after he supported me at my own Ultraman endeavour a couple years ago. A massive congrats again Ricky.
And, lastly, I am still hustling each day, working hard and doing my best to build momentum toward my run across Australia. If anyone knows anyone who may be interested in sponsorship or able to help in any way, please get in touch. It is such a huge job and I am doing my best but it's a lot of work and I am but one man! HA!
Well, that will do for this week friends. I hope and pray this finds you well and lovin life. Here’s to a great week ahead and adventures in abundance. Peace out.
