Challenges
If you're not being challenged and changing you stop living….in my humble opinion anyway! The last month really has been about growth, having some potentially stale ideas challenged and beginning to take things next level. Let me explain.
The last week has been a recovery week. No running (apart from a couple of small 5k runs) and a fair amount of lazing round, taking it easy and enjoying the week. Always fun. Toward the end of the week though I have been re-motivated and very keen to train. I have sought the services of a coach Luca Turrini who has helped an online friend run across the country and another mate I have made contact with who is also running across at the same time as me, all be it a little shorter distance each day. Both guys highly recommend Luca and after a lengthy chat, decided to give him a go! Time to take training next level. Change number one.
In the process of bringing together my team for the run, a local doctor and regular at The Journey, Josiah has committed to coming for the whole trip. This relationship has grown quickly and he is not only coming as crew but a doctor, overall adviser and accountability friend and introduced me to his business partner, Scottie who has offered to help streamline some business practices to make things better there too! Super rad. Change number two.
On the advise of a number of new people in the team (Josiah, Scottie and Amon), all blokes have suggested that what I am doing currently is not sustainable and that if I am to complete the 100k a day for 50days across the country I need to stop working as much. The hours I am in the shop and stuff I do outside the shop is A LOT and dialling back is both exciting and nerve racking. I am moving to 9am starts and four to five days a week. We are going to give that a run and see how we go. This will enable me to primarily sleep more, do strength and conditioning, social media and prep for the mammoth task ahead. Also, if I am completely honest, I am pretty excited at the prospect of not waking up at 3am unless I really want to for an adventure! Good times. Change number three.
Lastly, today is a cool day (Im writing this a day early), 22/2/22. I have often thought about Run Streaking (run a minimum of 1mile per day) but never given it a proper go. So, today is the day. I am committing to at least one year and invited anyone who wants to to join in. Should be super fun and exciting! Change number four.
So, I think that is probably enough changes for this week. It has been a super rad and productive one again and all these things combined I think will go a long way to helping me achieve the goal of running across Australia and making this whole thing a ‘job’ going forward.
I never want to stop challenging myself and pushing my boundaries. I find the most amount of life in this kind off living and will be relentless in my pursuit. Change, challenge, finding new ways to do things and adapting, even when scary is part of what brings us closer to being an extraordinary human. This is what I want and desire for my life.
So, here’s to change. Here’s to seeing seriously good results and here’s to a better you and me. Much love friends, don’t be afraid of what challenges you, it just might change your life. Consistency + Commitment
