Building…
The house is being built. The team is solid, the foundations strong and it is exciting. Nerve wracking yet incredibly exciting. This week I spoke with Coach Luca and wow. Just wow! Four months out from the beginning of my X-Country adventure and things are starting to get spicy.
In the past (apart from Ultraman), I have been self coached. So, to have Luca in charge currently is super rad and quite liberating, handing the reigns over to him and letting him take control of what I am doing. I 100% trust his direction and expertise and am stoked to have found someone so focused on getting me to the start of this journey healthy and incredibly fit in body, mind and spirit.
All that being said, a storm is coming! Luca has asked me to take time off from work periodically to train, suggesting there will be weeks such as 9hrs Monday, 8hrs Tuesday, dropping an hour a day for the week! Wow! Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable is the aim of the game currently that is for sure with three hour runs becoming my ‘normal’. But, we are building.
This last couple weeks since seeing Brady, the dietitian on the team, my weight has been steadily dropping and going in the right direction. We also have a plan to drop a little weight, do hydration and electrolyte loss testing and then reassess my diet as training continues to ramp up. Again, it is super rad to have a guy in my corner I trust and I just follow the bouncing ball. Not rocket science, just do what I am told. Beautiful. We are building.
Additionally, strength and conditioning work has also built to two sessions a week with Dan. He has been putting together really cool workouts for me, run specific, to get me strong in the core and legs to handle what 100k a day for 50days will do to me. This type of training is not natural for me anymore so to do something I am not good at and have to focus so hard on it is both challenging and humbling. Keep it coming Dan.
Last but 100% not least, Lizl (Chiro) and Jai (Physio) have been working on my body, getting me and keeping me in tune for the work I am doing day in and day out. So vital. They are building me.
These professionals, along with the crew I have assembled are all incredible humans in their own right. Together, as a collective, we will build the house, having me (and everything surrounding the adventure) ready to rumble come the 22nd of September.
It is exciting times. I feel incredibly fortunate to have all these people in my life and be in the position I am in to make this dream a reality. One day at a time, I work my ass off to make it as memorable as possible for all my team and the people following along on the socials. What a position to be in! I will never take it for granted.
So friends. We are building. The house is being constructed every day and it excites me. Thank you for coming on the journey with me and let's keep it rolling. Keep building, one brick at a time. Consistency + commitment. Mat
Listening for the last couple weeks - Casey Jones. Some tough guy straight edge music for your ear holes. Enjoy.
