Recovery
A few years back I started a process where after every ultra I do, I have a full week off training. Nothing. Very easy walking. Living. Sleeping. Work. Maybe some light yard work but nothing else. When I am training I am full gass so it is a great time to catch up on jobs I have neglected, sleep, eat and let the body and mind rest before its time to get back into the next block of training. This has worked super well over the last couple years and something I will continue to do.
So, as stated, after UTA I had a full week off. I got tattooed, rested, enjoyed the rest of our holiday and went back to work on Friday. It has been super nice and I enjoyed the down time. I started back with a 5k on Sunday (and a swollen armpit from the tattoo) and have increased 5k each day. I am surprised, usually a week removed I am pretty good, even after a 100miler but the legs are still pretty tired. The race, I am guessing the big elevation change, took it out of me. I am doing my best to be smart but with a 100miler in three and half weeks, I gotta get moving!
The next couple weeks leading to BVRT should be interesting. I have some big ideas on how I want to build but well see how the body responds. I have done four runs now and plan on shooting for a 200k week from tomorrow, then I am going to a hardcore show with Tegs, get tattooed again (yeah, yeah I know), have three days off after that, slow build again and then another 200k week before tapering. That all sounds lovely on paper but well see how it pans out in reality. The reduced sleep and those miles may be too much but its what I am shooting for. With a goal of getting as close to 18hrs as possible at the event, I would love to get that big stuff chalked up to mentally have me ready to roll come race day. Should be a good challenge.
Apart from that, all else is cruising well. I am healthy, the shop is busy and everything is tops. I am looking forward to a fun month ahead and seeing what happens in the madness. I hope you are all doing amazing, staying safe and setting solid goals for the mid year. Much love friends, until next week, peace out.
